The Middle Path, One Day At A Time

Dear Readers,

After putting some research into the provenance of
this article, I find too many questions about its origin, and have been
unable to uncover anything that supports its authenticity.  Neither
have Snopes.com, who list it as “Undetermined.”  That is not good
enough for someone who, while not my kind of guy, has served this
country faithfully for many years.

Although I remain a staunch
supporter of Senators Obama and Biden and find the possibility of
Senator McCain and Governor Palin getting into the White House to be
absolutely chilling, I must, nonetheless, apologize to the senator, his
supporters and to you for having posted it without checking more
carefully.  This is precisely the kind of character assassination we
have come to expect from the “other side,” and I regret having been an
unwitting party to it.

  1. I’m extremely dubious about this. The same story has been attributed to an Anasuya Dubey, and I’ve seen a comment by “Mary-Kay Gamel” (but who knows if she really posted it) saying she wasn’t the author. Anasuya sounds like an Indian name, and it doesn’t sound likely that McCain would make extremely derogatory racial comments about his Bangladeshi daughter to someone from India. I don’t think it’s a good idea to assume this is true, and if it’s not then it’s positively harmful to Obama, since it’s going to be seen as a dirty trick pulled by people on his side.

I trust my source, and I’m asking him to check his right back to Prof. Gamel. If there is any doubt in my mind, I’ll remove it immediately. In the meantime, I don’t encourage sending it on. However, I’m not going to insult my brother’s friend, who is a nationally-known attorney, by assuming it to be incorrect.
