In his introduction to An Arrow to the Heart: A Commentary on the Heart Sutra, Ken McLeod explains that this short text is about “the perfection of wisdom.” It’s not supposed to help me conceptually understand the perfection of wisdom. It’s not a devotional work or a meditation guide. It is supposed to experientially
bring me closer to “deeper knowing.” And of course, to talk about what
it’s supposed to do is futile and pointless, because it defies
explanation.
