Tiny Moore Haven embracing FPL’s proposal to build plant
MOORE HAVEN — The Moore Haven Restaurant closes at 2 p.m.
But for the farmers and other early risers, the eggs start cooking at 5 a.m. in the tiny building, which is painted Smurf blue and marked by little more than an oversized “Open” sign with an arrow drawn on it that sits in the parking lot off Avenue 1.
Inside, Joy Arnold rattles off the specials to the customers — county commissioners, Glades Electric Cooperative employees, deputy sheriffs and other local shop owners. Wednesday’s feature: A taco salad with french fries. Price: $4.99.
Arnold, 47, who came to Moore Haven 35 years ago, knows Glades County is about farming — citrus, sugar and mostly beef cattle with a little bit of dairy. But there’s little else, and that has to change, she said.
